Catalytic_Process-AHPCO-mblPoor home ventilation can result in indoor air to be more polluted than the air outside your home. Allergens, molds, dust and other pollutants in the home can severely affect the approximately 65 million Americans with asthma, allergies or other respiratory problems. Some estimates relay that 1 gram of dust alone may hold 50,000 bacteria.

More and more health-conscious consumers are looking to UV (ultraviolet) lights to greatly reduce or eliminate the pollutants in the home that can lead to respiratory issues. Many studies list UV lights as the most effective way of combating home air contaminants.

Are Air Filters Alone Sufficient?

UV Lights work by killing viruses and bacteria that aren’t captured by even the best filters. Bacteria are as small as 0.2 microns and viruses are very tiny — down to 0.003 microns. Popular HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters tout that they can capture particles as small as 0.3 microns, but these thin filter don’t filter tiny viruses and often need replacing; plus, the filter can really hamper your system airflow.

Is UV Light Safe? How Does It Work?

UV light is a clean technology leaving no residues. This technology has safely been used in hospitals, industry (including food industry) and effectively in homes for many years.

In general, UV light causes germ killing effects by interacting with the DNA of microorganisms. This disruption of the DNA prevents the organism from functioning and reproducing.

UV energy has long been known to kill microorganisms. No other technique, including HEPA filters can provide the levels of air sterilization achievable with UV lights.
