Advances in ductless mini-split performance and design clearly places these neat little systems ahead of the pack for a practical cooling (and heating) solution. Find out how going ductless may be the best solution for your room addition, retrofit, home office and more.
Heat pump power, and better
A ductless mini-split is a redesigned air-source heat pump (or A/C) with the cooling coil installed in the immediate room or space that needs to be cooled. Bulky ductwork isn't needed, which provides homeowners new options for cooling areas with limited space, room additions, home offices, garages, sun rooms or the whole home.
A thin conduit accommodates the refrigerant line, drainage and power. The conduit connects the outside compressor/condenser unit to one or more indoor air handlers, which afford homeowners a plethora of installation locations. The sleek, space-saving indoor air handlers are typically installed high on walls, in drop ceilings and even inside walls with the air-supply outlet flush as in a conventional central cooling system.
Advanced performance, practical solution
With the latest technological advances in ductless mini-split design, such as the variable-speed inverter compressor, new ductless systems can reach 26 SEER (cooling efficiency), surpassing high-efficiency heat pumps and A/C systems. Inverter compressors supply the precise amount of refrigerant required at any given moment for efficient cooling.
Moreover, if using more than one inside air handler, you get a zoning system, which delivers independent cooling exactly when and where you need it. With South Florida’s hot and humid cooling months, this itself has the potential to save substantial energy dollars.
Other advances in ductless mini-split technology include the following:
- Advanced dehumidification mode for more comfort
- Inverter compressor technology delivers whisper-quiet operation
- Up to five airflow speeds for enhanced comfort
- Coil-freeze technology extends system life
- Comfortable cooling with outside temperatures reaching 115 degrees
- Wireless system controls
- Washable air filter
